A good scythe is more than just a graceful tool, it is a lifestyle choice. Mowing with a scythe is a skill that you can learn and perfect and once you become proficient, you will want to learn the skills necessary to keep your scythe blade as sharp as humanly possible. Mowing and maintaining your blade will no longer be just a task on your to do list but a sought after opportunity to practice moving your body and quieting your mind. Though the Marugg Company has been making scythes for over 150 years, we (the current people behind the scenes) are still learning the art of mowing and maintaining this tool. We hope to offer video content and in person training in the future as we feel more confident in our own skills. In the meantime we want to share here some resources that we particularly like.

We are not the only folks selling scythes. Scythe Supply out of Maine and One Scythe Revolution out of Wisconsin also provide tools and online resources. We are all small businesses that are tied to our local places and we all appreciate your support!

Botan Anderson of One Scythe Revolution has done amazing work educating and communicating about mowing and maintaining a scythe. His YouTube channel is a wonderful and accessible resource.

The Berry Farm and Forest Institute in Kentucky offers scything courses from an amazing teacher and personal mentor. Sign up for their newsletter to know when classes will be offered.

The Cumberland Folk School is a Tennessee Folk School that offers classes in traditional crafts and skills. We hope to partner with them to offer classes in the future but also want to shout out the many other classes that they offer.
